Last week I had the pleasure to attend the Cleveland, Ohio based creative conference, Weapons of Mass Creation. Staying true to mid-west values of hard work and a can do attitude, the mainly design and entrepreneur based conference had a small and intimate feeling that made it easy relate to the speakers as they talked about their struggles, process and the route that worked best for them for finding happiness and success in the work they do. This raw honesty the speakers brought forth was very refreshing.
The conference did have some bigger names such as Debbie Millman and Michael Bierut, who were epic as they always are. But most of the speakers at this conference I had never heard of, and most of these people were not "design celebrities" or people who had worked on enormous advertising campaigns. These speakers were in the middle of there journey. They were taking risks, they were failing and then trying again. Stories like this are ones that inspire me, motivate me and remind me that I have to keep on trying.
Many thanks to Cleveland and Columbus for their generous midwest hospitality during my first trip to the great state of Ohio.
